Feedback submitted afterwards indicates that both students and professionals appreciated the knowledge and insights shared by the panelists and that all students were highly satisfied with the event. Students particularly valued the diverse panel, in both age and experience, learning about the multifaceted nature of the accounting profession, and learning about the value of communication/people skills, the significance of critical thinking, curiosity, and a growth mindset. In addition, even though SCU has a “super charged accounting program”

that provides graduates with a good foundation, “you have to plan”, and “you have to show up for your job even though your friends may not have the same job requirements.” Matt Sepe also recommended for students “to embrace the experience of group projects.” In reality, the workforce is all about working in team environments and capitalizing on individual strengths to achieve team productivity and success.

On a personal note, we were honored to have two generations of SCU alumni families join us for our event. Lewis Chew (’84) and his son/event moderator Ryan Chew (’15), and Jim Sepe (’69) and his son/panelist Matt Sepe (’98) have a generously shared their time with our students and we are grateful for their many contributions to our Accounting program. Both Jim and Lewis moderated the event in prior years.
The event concluded with a raffle drawing, offering students the chance to win prizes generously donated by the sponsoring Accounting Advisory Board firms:
