What aspect of your fellowship has been most rewarding?
Before this fellowship, I thought civic engagement was just about showing up and volunteering. However, my time with the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley (HFSV) taught me that true engagement requires curiosity and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone. While I initially stayed close to what was familiar, pushing myself to talk directly with scholars and families helped me deeply understand their stories, struggles, and dreams. Moving forward, I want to bring this commitment to relational leadership into both my personal and professional life. Personally, I will continue to listen intentionally and build relationships within my community; professionally, I plan to use my platform to ensure that the organizations I work for consider their impact on underserved populations, recognizing that the first step to creating meaningful change is asking communities what they truly need.
