Beta Gamma Sigma Conference Recap

BGS Conference Photo
Each year Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS), International Business Honor Society, hosts a regional leaership conference. This year, the 2-day conference was held at Loyola Marymount University and students from various colleges explored the topic of “Navigating Leadership: Adapting Styles for the Evolving Workplace.”  Leavey School of Business was represented by Samantha Cho and Cynthia Hong, both AIS seniors.

Here is an interview with Samantha and Cynthia talking about their experiences from the conference!

What is the BGS conference?

The BGS conference is a regional leadership conference typically hosted by a university for invited students in the Business School. This year, the 2-day conference was held at Loyola Marymount University and invited students from various colleges to explore the topic of “Navigating Leadership: Adapting Styles for the Evolving Workplace.” Students listened to guest speakers and panelists, participated in smaller leadership activities, networked with their peers, and collaborated on a community service project.

Why did you want to attend?

We were inaugurated into the BGS chapter last spring and were excited to learn about the opportunities provided by BGS. We learned about this conference and decided to apply for a chance to network with students from BGS chapters outside of our university and develop our leadership skills.

What are the highlights for each of you?

Cynthia: My highlight was working with my team on a community service project to make an ABC picture book about leadership for a children’s hospital. It was interesting to see how we can adjust our language for young kids, fun to combine colorful words and images, and rewarding knowing it would make a positive impact.

Samantha: I enjoyed exploring the local college and working with a diverse group of students who came from different parts of the world. I collaborated with individuals from Australia, Texas, and MBA students from Southern California. This was a unique opportunity to learn new perspectives and collaborate utilizing our different leadership styles.
