Ian Tewksbury received his PhD from Stanford University in 2023 in Classics. He specializes in the study of Homeric poetry and the political philosophy of labor, democracy, slavery. He has been awarded research fellowships from the Harvard Center for Hellenic Studies, the Stanford Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis, and the California State University System. His current research is focused on the function of labor in Platonic philosophy and untangling the history of the demos - an ancient Greek word that meant both “the people” and “communal land division.” He is currently working on a book on the economic theory of the early 20th century radical scholar Rosa Luxemburg and her effaced work on Greco-Roman slavery and democracy.
