Spring 2025 Celebrations

The department hosted three student events this past spring.

Our first event was the initiation ceremony for Eta Sigma Phi, our Classics honors society, on May 8th. The chapter officers, Katerina Gill ‘25 and Elois Farnsworth ‘25 inducted 10 new initiates, celebrated 10 graduating seniors, and elected new student officers for 2025-2026: Giovanna Aretakis ‘26 as Prytanis and Ethan Richey ‘26 as Hyparchos.

On May 28th, we held the Classics End of Year celebration, open to all majors and minors. Highlights included our senior capstone presentations by graduating majors Elois Farnsworth, Katerina Gill, Caitlin Gronowski, Lillian Henderson, Adrian Machado, and Connor Roland. We also presented our Student Awards for 2024-2025. Congratulations to:

  • Elois Farnsworth ‘25, winner of the Arete Prize
  • Katerina Gill ‘25, winner of the Kropp Prize
  • Noah Bruening ‘28, winner of the Latin Prize
  • Thanh-Thanh Cao ‘28, winner of the Augusta Prize

Finally, we invited all 16 senior majors and minors to bring their friends and family to a Graduation Reception held at Classics House on the day before graduation. It is always a pleasure to meet everyone’s relatives and friends, and toast our seniors as they go onto the next phase of their lives.
