Linda C. Burks

Associate Teaching Professor

Linda Burks earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; an M.S. in mathematics and a Ph.D. in mathematics education at the University of Michigan.

Linda is the Director of the Mathematics Learning Center (MLC) at Santa Clara University. She is an active participant in the Mathematics Learning Center Leaders (MLCL).

Linda's research seeks to address how faculty and tutors can best address the mathematics needs of first year university students. Her current work also focuses on making connections between high school and college mathematics. Linda has presented her research at different conferences including Research in Undergraduate Mathematics (RUME) and Mathematical Association of America (MAA) MathFest.

Linda was a first-generation college student and she enjoys being in a challenging environment where she could learn and grow and help others learn and grow as well. She wants all of her students, including her current first-generation college students to know that they belong at Santa Clara University. They add depth to the learning experiences of everyone: students and faculty. She encourages them to make the most of their time here. Ask questions. Get to know people who are similar to and different from you. We all benefit when we meet new people and increase our understanding of each other.
