2023 Alexanderson Lecture

Fourth Annual Alexanderson Lecture Given by Bruce Sagan, Stalking the Wild Fibonomial

The Mathematics and Computer Science Department welcomes Bruce Sagan to give the Fourth Annual Alexanderson Lecture, Stalking the Wild Fibonomial, on March 6th, 2023.

The lecture was recorded and a reception was held afterwards. 

Bruce Sagan got his degree at MIT in 1979 under Richard Stanley. He has been at Michigan State University since 1986 and is currently a Full Professor. Sagan has written over 100 papers and his books on the symmetric group and enumerative combinatorics are highly regarded. He has won several teaching awards. He has given more than 200 talks at various conferences and universities. He has extended visits at various international institutes and foreign universities, including Université Louis Pasteur (France), University College of Wales, Université du Québec à Montréal (Canada), the Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), Oberwolfach (Germany), and the Mittag-Leffler Institute (Sweden). When not doing mathematics, Sagan plays folk music from various countries in Europe on the fiddle and other ethnic instruments having strings and bows.

The Alexanderson Lecture recognizes Jerry Alexanderson’s personal commitment to furthering public understanding of mathematics and its impact on our world through his sixty years at Santa Clara University.
