Maricela Portillo-Loayza

Assistant Teaching Professor

Maricela Portillo holds a B.A. in Education with a specialization in Spanish Language and Literature from the National University of Altiplano in Perú (UNA). She earned a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Enrique Guzmán y Valle and a Ph.D. in Administration from Federico Villarreal University, both in Perú. In her youth, she worked as a news presenter, reporter, and interviewer for the newscast Acontecimientos. She has been a professor in the Department of Education at UNA for 18 years, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses related to the development of oral and written competency in Spanish communication, teaching strategies, and educational research. She also served as Director of the Secondary Education Program at UNA. She was a Visiting Professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at San Francisco State University, and for the past two years, she has been teaching Spanish at Santa Clara University.
