Trips Outside the U.S.

Learn more about the approval process managed by the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) for student organization trips outside the U.S.

Countries with Travel Restrictions

SCU does not support University-sponsored travel to countries with certain travel restrictions placed upon them by the U.S. Department of State or other entities due to significant issues of safety, health, and/or legal risk due to factors such as natural disasters, political strife, and organized crime.

View the U.S. Department of State list of travel advisories and alerts.

  • SCU will consider travel to countries that have travel advisory levels of 1 and 2.
  • SCU will not consider travel to countries that have travel advisory levels of 3 and 4.

University Travel Policy & Process

If your student organization is considering travel to another country, contact Tedd Vanadilok in the Center for Student Involvement as soon as possible to review the process and go through each step from start to finish.

Travel proposal deadlines are as follow:

  • Fall Quarter: July 1
  • Winter Break/Winter Quarter: October 15
  • Spring Break/Spring Quarter: January 15
  • Summer travel in May/June: March 15
  • Summer travel in July: May 1
  • Summer travel in August/September: June 1

Pre-Departure Meeting

Prior to departure date, all participants of the trip need to meet with Tedd Vanadilok in the Center for Student Involvement to view a required presentation about safety and travel within the country of destination. This meeting will also be time to review other necessary steps your student organization needs to take to prepare for the trip.

Insurance

SCU provides additional travel insurance and assistance services for any University-sponsored or -funded trips. This insurance coverage is in addition to a traveler's own insurance policy and does have limitations.

Note: It is highly recommended that travelers review their own insurance policies to learn what coverage they have.
