Please note that certificates of attendance are only issued to licensed clinicians registered for CE credit, per APA regulations.

Past Events

Thank you to all who participated in our 2024 series of continuing education workshops! We had nearly 600 participants join us at our three major Mental Health Workshops. It was a fantastic year of learning, professional development, and community building. Here's what we offered in 2024:

On April 5, 2024, the Center for Professional Development was honored to collaborate with the Counseling Psychology Department to host a well-attended and impactful workshop. This event was made possible through the support of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Emphasis at the Santa Clara University School of Education and Counseling Psychology.

Attendees—including mental health providers, SCU faculty, staff, and students—gained valuable insights into empathetic and effective suicide prevention strategies and risk assessment tools for supporting at-risk adolescents. Despite the inherent complexity of this subject, Suzanne Levy, Ph.D., from the Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT) International Training Institute, delivered an especially insightful presentation.

A cherished annual event at ECP, this year’s Latinx Education Summit, "Juntos Apoyando a Nuestras Familias," was co-hosted by the Center for Professional Development and the Latinx Research Center. The event brought together teachers, school administrators, and licensed mental health providers to explore how community-based practices can promote equity and support families within the Latinx community.

We extend our sincere gratitude to our sponsors, the Latino Education Advancement Foundation and SCU Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education's Thriving Neighbors. Your generous support made this meaningful gathering possible!

A special thank you to our attendees and incredible speakers from ECP, The Foundation for Hispanic Education, The Primary School, and San Mateo Union High School District’s Empowerment Through Action. Your leadership and expertise helped foster powerful conversations on community-driven solutions in education and mental health.

Dr. Sabrina Zirkel, Dean of the School of Education and Counseling Psychology, presents a recognition award to Janet Sims, LMFT, in honor of her outstanding contributions as the former Coordinator of the LGBTQ+ Emphasis.

Co-sponsored by the Center for Professional Development and the LGBTQ+ Emphasis at Santa Clara University’s School of Education and Counseling Psychology, our 3rd annual LGBTQ+ Affirming Mental Health Symposium was a powerful day of learning, connection, and growth. Nearly 200 attendees, including mental health providers, students, and community organizations, came together to engage in critical discussions on supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and communities.

A heartfelt thank you to our esteemed presenters: Irene Van, Niki Khanna, Dominique Oster, Gabrielle Antolovich, and Cybele Lolley, LMFT. Your impactful sessions covered working with South Asian, Intersex, and Senior clients, as well as an enlightening discussion on Sexual Health. Your expertise and dedication enriched the experience for all.

This event also served as a moment to honor Janet Sims, our incredible co-organizer, whose steadfast work and dedication over the past three years have helped shape this symposium into a vital annual gathering. Janet, your contributions to the LGBTQ+ community continue to inspire us all!
