What contributes to the development of compassion? As a university that describes itself as educating men and women for competence, conscience, and compassion, Santa Clara is deeply concerned with the question of how to inculcate this virtue among students. In 2013-14, SCU Psychology Professor Thomas Plante worked with senior Erin Callister to study factors, such as immersion trips, attendance at religious services, and experiential learning, that correlate with compassion. Callister was a 2013-14 Hackworth Fellow at the Ethics Center.
