To Open Or Not To Open?

Charles Binkley, director of bioethics, interviewed for the OML Word On The Street Podcast - Episode 15: "To Open Or Not To Open?" - Part 2

The Office for Multicultural Learning at Santa Clara University takes a deep dive into the question, "To open or not to open?" where they consider the complexities when it comes to virtual v. in-person classes. In Part 2, they focus on the ethical implications of virtual v. in-person classes through a conversation with Charles Binkley, MD, Director of Bioethics at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics.

"When you’re considering a decision like that, first of all, you have to consider the perspective of multiple stakeholders. It’s easy to think of the stakeholders as the university versus the students, but you also have to consider the surrounding community, you have to think about the repercussions to faculty and staff … and you have to think about the longevity of the university."

"You have to think about all stakeholders, both the real ones right in front of you and those in the future, the potential ones, and those that may come about."
