October Associate Provost Global Engagement Update
October has been an exciting month for Global Engagement. This month, Global Engagement was honored to host a prestigious delegation of twelve higher education professionals from the Middle East and North Africa, including Chad, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, who were nominated by the U.S. Department of State to participate in a premier professional exchange program focused on Higher Education Partnerships. The delegation consisted of university presidents, deans, administrators, and professors who are interested in examining higher ed administration models as well as potential U.S. collaboration and partnerships (including exchange program possibilities) with MENA universities.
Also, this month, we launched a new resource, Atlas, a newsletter supporting university-sponsored international travel health, safety, and risk. Read below for more information and to subscribe.
In addition, we are pleased to unveil our new Barbara Cassin Award for Excellence in Global Engagement for faculty, which will be awarded for the first time in 2024-25. The award recognizes outstanding faculty efforts supporting global engagement. You can read more below.
I would also like to highlight this month’s successful launch of our 2024-25 iExchange program, which matches international students with faculty and staff “buddies.” 81 students, faculty, and staff are participating in the program this year, with students from many countries and a wide representation of faculty and staff from across campus. Didn’t get a chance to sign-up this year? You can still learn more about iExchange and consider participating next year.
I hope that your fall is going well. Please join us at events this term.
Best,
Susan Popko
