Broncos Read FAQ

What is Broncos Read?

Broncos Read is a program of the University Library. Each year, the Library creates posters honoring a student, a student team or club, a faculty member, a staff member, and an alum who embody the 3Cs (Conscience, Competence, and Compassion) and demonstrate a passion for reading and/or scholarship.

Honorees are photographed with their favorite book or other publication and share a quote about what reading means to them. The posters are released during National Library Week in April. Posters are displayed on a prominent screen at the entrance of Learning Commons, and permanently in the Broncos Read online gallery and website.

Honorees receive a printed copy of their poster and a gift card to the SCU bookstore.

All current students, staff, and faculty can nominate SCU members that they believe have contributed to the University. There is no limit on the number of nominations an individual can make.

The campus community will be notified by email in early February when the nomination period opens.

Any current student, student groups or teams (such as athletic teams), staff, and faculty members can be nominated to be featured in a Broncos Read poster. Student groups and teams may nominate themselves and explain how they contribute to SCU. Finalists for the alumni category are selected by the Alumni Office.

Self-nominations are only accepted for student groups or teams. If you wish to be considered as an honoree, you can ask a friend or colleague to nominate you.

Honorees are selected and notified in early March. An announcement to the broader campus community will be made during National Library Week.

National Library Week is an annual celebration of the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians, typically celebrated the second week in April. All types of libraries - school, public, academic and special - participate. Libraries often take the week as an opportunity to raise awareness about their services and how they enrich their communities.

The Broncos Read core committee members include librarians and library staff members. A faculty member and a student are added to the committee each year to help select the winners.
