- No training of minors allowed. Only registered camps with the university or officially approved rentals can use this space.
- Possession and/or use of alcohol is prohibited.
- Report any broken or damaged equipment to the Athletics Department 408-554-4063.

- Open recreation games are played with rally scoring to 11 points, win by two points.
- Courts may be closed due to inclement weather without notice. Please obey all posted court closure signs.
Equipment for the courts:

- To check out equipment, a valid ACCESS credential (mobile or physical) or Malley Center Membership card is required. When equipment is checked in, the patron’s ACCESS/Malley Center Membership/Equipment Check out card is returned to them.
- A patron may only provide his/her personal ACCESS/Malley Center Membership card or ID to check out equipment. The card must have a name for us to identify them. The Malley Center Front Desk Staff is responsible for verifying that the card’s photo matches the patron.
- If a patron uses someone else’s membership card in an attempt to check out equipment, the card is to be retained by the Campus Recreation Staff and held until the proper owner retrieves it. If the card is not retrieved, it will be returned to the ACCESS Card Office.
- Patrons agree to inspect equipment and personally determine that it is safe and suitable for use and to decline use of the equipment if they determine that it is not safe or suitable.
- Guests are not permitted to check out equipment. Sponsoring members must check out all the needed equipment.
- Campus Recreation has the right to revoke equipment checkout privileges.
- After checking out equipment, the patron has until 30-minutes before the end of the business day to return the equipment. For all equipment not returned 30-minutes prior to closing on the same business day, a fee will be collected.
- For all damaged, lost, or stolen equipment that is not returned, a replacement fee will be collected; fees vary depending on equipment.
- A charge form will be filled out and responsible parties will have seven days to pay any fees to avoid losing access to the Malley Center.
- Patrons who return equipment in this period will have replacement fees waived.
- To pay, stop by the Malley Center Front Desk during business hours and let them know you have a fee to pay or equipment to return. Charge forms are located in Will Call under the person’s last name at the Front Desk.
- Campus Recreation accepts cash, check, Visa, or MasterCard for payment.

- The following rules are not intended to cover all instances. Other rules may be posted in the facility or updated and shall be considered binding to all participants. Campus Recreation reserves the right to change or amend these policies as deemed necessary for the safety and functionality of the facility, program or activity.
- Participants and guests must abide by all posted and written policies as well as comply with requests made by Campus Recreation Staff members.
- Patrons exhibiting abusive behavior, either verbally or physically, toward another patron or Campus Recreation Staff will be asked to leave the facility immediately. Patrons may be suspended from using recreation facilities for their abusive behavior. If a patron refuses to leave the facility upon request of a Campus Recreation Staff member, Campus Safety will be contacted to remove the patron.
- Campus Recreation Staff reserves the right to refuse service to any participant.
- The athletic and campus recreation facilities are subject to 24-hour surveillance. The video is randomly monitored by Campus Recreation Staff and Campus Safety.
- All members that sustain a head injury and are transported during their use of athletic and campus recreation facilities and programs are required to submit a doctor’s note to return to using the athletic and campus recreation facilities and programs.
- No training of minors or other individuals allowed within our facilities.
- Santa Clara University and Campus Recreation are not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.
- All items left within recreational facilities will be collected and held for up to two weeks. Items left after two weeks will be donated to a local charitable organization.
- Food, drinks, and gum are not allowed in the recreational facilities.
- Patrons are responsible for removing their trash from activity spaces and using the trash bins in the main hallway to recycle, compost or throw away the trash accordingly.
- Enclosed water bottles with water only are allowed in activity areas; however no glass containers are allowed.
- No alcohol products of any kind are allowed in any recreational facilities. Patrons suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be asked to leave the particular facility immediately.
- Bicycles are not allowed within the recreational facilities. Bicycles must be locked up outside in the designated areas. Patrons with rollerblades or skateboards cannot use them in the recreational facilities. Skateboards can not go beyond the lobby and must be stored in the skateboard racks available.
- The Malley Center Front Desk staff cannot store personal items behind the front desk.
- Participants should attend to matters of personal hygiene as well as cleanliness of workout wear.
- All patrons using the Malley Center must wear a shirt. If clothing allows for skin to come in contact with a bench, padding, or mat, users must have a towel or another shirt between their skin and the surface.
- Non-marking, closed toe athletic shoes must be worn in all activity spaces. Any patron wearing shoes that mark the court floors will be asked to change shoes before they may continue participation. Patrons may not participate in socks or bare feet (except while in a fitness class as directed by the instructor).
- Activity spaces must be kept clear of personal items. Backpacks and gear bags should be stored in lockers or cubbyholes within activity spaces. Bags lying on the floor within activity spaces will be moved into cubby holes.
- Patrons using personal stereos must have headphones. Groups that have reserved the Multipurpose Room may play their own personal stereo without headphones.
- Animals (except service animals) are not allowed in recreational facilities except for appropriately labeled guide dogs assisting disabled persons.
- Due to limited space for flyers, we only accept one flyer from all SCU Sponsored Events for posting. If approved, it will be posted in the Community Events board.
- Photography and videography are permitted in Campus Recreation facilities for personal and academic use, with the exception of the locker rooms. Personal privacy of patrons must be respected. Patrons may only take individual selfies and not include others in their photos. Campus Recreation staff reserves the right to ask any patron to cease taking photos. Photography or videotaping for commercial purposes must be approved by the Office of University Marketing and Communications
- Cell phone conversations are not allowed in any activity spaces. Please take any phone calls, Facetimes, etc. in the hallways or on the patios as to not disturb others’ workouts.
- Fitness classes outside those offered by Campus Recreation must be conducted by a nationally certified fitness instructor. Campus Recreation must have their certification on-file 48 hours before the event.
- All facilities must be vacated by posted closing time.
- Failure to comply may result in loss of Campus Recreation privileges.

- Basketballs, volleyballs, etc., can not be thrown or hit into the walls, bleachers, or ceiling.
- Gymnasium use for informal recreation is limited to basketball, pickleball, volleyball, and badminton. Volleyballs and basketballs are always available and badminton and pickleball can be set-up as requested.
- Non-marking closed-toe athletic shoes must be worn on the courts.
- No personal training sessions and training of minors or other individuals.
To protect the facility and equipment:
- Hanging from the basketball rims or nets is not permitted.

- Games are played to 15 points, with the winner winning by two.
- Games are 6-on-6 when individuals are waiting.
Informal Badminton Guidelines
- Losing team players yield court to those waiting to play and may not participate until all individuals waiting have played.
- Games are played to 21 points, the winner winning by two.
- At 29 all, the team scoring the 30th point wins.
Informal Pickleball Guidelines
- Losing team players yield court to those waiting to play and may not participate until all individuals waiting have played.
- Games are played to 11 points using traditional scoring, the winner winning by two.
- At 14 all, the team scoring the 15th point wins.
Drop in Guidelines:
- Volleyball, Pickleball, and Badminton have scheduled drop in hours where they will have priority unless there is another scheduled activity on the assigned court.
- During those scheduled drop in hours, the nets will stay up for the entire length of time they are scheduled, even if no one is currently playing.
- When the time ends, the nets will be taken down if there are scheduled activities.
- If there are no scheduled activities, they may remain up only if there are no other players waiting to use the courts.
- Drop in hours are subject to change based on campus recreation and other universities groups scheduled activities.

In addition to the General Policies, the Locker Room Policies are:
General Locker Room
- The Suit Mate is to be used for wet bathing suits only, not for drenched workout apparel. Dry all bathing suits prior to storing in lockers.
- Lockers are subject to inspection at any time. For example, lockers may be inspected for:
- Odors
- Physical damage or defaced lockers
- Suspected illegal, illicit, harmful, offensive, or inappropriate contents
- Risk to the general welfare of the university
- Lockers are to be kept clean and sanitized by the user. Campus Recreation reserves the right to clean and sanitize individual lockers as needed. If lockers are going to be cleaned by Campus Recreation staff, users will be notified in advance. Fees may be assessed for locker damage caused by abuse or neglect.
- Unclean or wet items should not be left in lockers overnight. Do not leave unlaundered items in the locker that may create an odor. This is intended to help maintain a clean, healthy, and odor-free environment in the locker rooms.
- Lockers should be locked while unattended to prevent theft.
- Members may not share lockers. Lockers are rented as a secure location to store a patron’s personal belongings. Sharing this space compromises that security by allowing another person access to the locker combination.
- Campus Recreation reserves the right to revoke a locker rental should a patron fail to maintain their assigned locker and any contents in a sanitary condition. At least one warning will be issued before rental is revoked.
- Notify front desk staff of any issues or concerns.
- The use of cell phones and other recording devices is strictly prohibited in the locker room.
Day Use Locker Service
- Participants may bring their own locks and secure their items for single day-use. Items may only be kept in the locker during Pat Malley Fitness and Recreation Center business hours.
- Both locker room areas have day-use lockers for patrons to use.
- Campus Recreation staff will remove any items left in the day-use lockers after the closing of the facility and store the belongings for two weeks. Items left after two weeks will be donated to a charitable organization.
General Lockers
- A limited number of lockers are available for rent annually.
- All general lockers expire and must be cleared by the Sunday before the fall academic quarter.
- There is a $60.00 fee for use of the locker for the academic year. This fee is prorated throughout the year as lockers become available.
Faculty/Staff Locker Room
- A private faculty/staff locker room is available in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms.
- Entrance into the faculty/staff locker room is controlled by a combination lock. Users may obtain the combination at the Malley Center Front Desk.
- Day use lockers are available within the faculty/staff locker room, as well as a limited number of rental lockers that may be reserved for the academic year at a nominal fee.
- Faculty/staff may keep their same locker for consecutive academic years if they are using it and the facility.
- All faculty/staff no longer interested in retaining their locker or leaving the university must have all items removed by the Sunday before the fall academic quarter or before they leave the university.
- All holders of faculty/staff lockers will receive emails about the renewal process to retain their lockers mid-August.
- Information regarding the availability of faculty/staff lockers may be obtained at the Front Desk.
Annual Locker Refunds
- If you leave the University during your locker term or decide you no longer wish to have a locker we will prorate your refund based on the time the refund was requested and the amount left in the agreement.
- To request a refund for your locker rental complete the Refund Request Form. You can either submit this form to the Malley Center Front Desk Staff or e-mail it to campusrec@scu.edu.
- Refund checks will arrive within 4 - 6 weeks at the mailing address provided on the Refund Request Form.
Santa Clara University and Campus Recreation are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items.

- Minor children (under 18 years of age) of students, faculty, staff and alumni members may enter the facilities free of charge.
- Adult children (over 18 years of age) of students, faculty, staff and alumni maybe sponsored as a guest for a nominal fee. For more information see Guest Passes.
- For all minor children a Minor Registration Form must be completed by the parent or legal guardian annually.
- A parent or legal guardian must accompany their minor/child/children under the age of 18 at all times within recreation facilities.
- Minor children under the age of 16 are not permitted to use the Malley Center Weight Room.
- No minor children of guests are allowed to use the facilities.
- In addition to the General Policies, the Multipurpose Room policies are:
- No ball sports are permitted in the Multipurpose Room.
- Program-specific equipment should be stored at the conclusion of each activity.
- Equipment in the Multipurpose Room Storage is for use by Campus Recreation Fitness classes only. This includes the stereo. Groups that have reserved the space will need to bring their own personal stereos.
- Stretching mats cannot leave the Multipurpose Room.
- Stretching mats are for individual use only – do not group together for sparring, gymnastics, or any other activities.
- No personal training sessions and training of minors or other individuals.
- Patrons are expected to clean stretching mats after each use.
- Please turn off cell phones when attending any of our fitness classes.
- Priority for use of the Multipurpose Room goes to scheduled events and activities. All events and activities must be scheduled through the Assistant Director for Membership and Operations. - No one under the age of 18.
- Please shower before entering.
- Limit use to a maximum of 15 minutes.
- Do not use if you feel faint or dizzy.
- No eating or glass containers.
- Please do not pour anything on the heating element.
- Please no aromatic products.
- Do not dry clothing on the heating elements.
- Do not tamper with the heating element, sensors or thermostat.
- No phones allowed.
Notify the Front Desk if the Sauna is not functioning.

- In addition to the General Policies, the Aquatic Center Policies are:
- Each patron must be a member of the Malley Center and/or paid guest.
- Patrons must enter the pool area through the Malley Center.
- The pool area is open only for use during scheduled hours and when guarded by the Campus Recreation Lifeguard Staff.
- Lifeguards have the right to ask swimmers to move to other lanes as needed for scheduled events or to ensure the safety of swimmers. It is the lifeguards discretion to require someone to swim where they can stand.
- No food, drinks, or glass containers are allowed in the pool area other than water in resealable plastic containers.
- All individuals, both on the pool deck and in the swimming pool, must wear proper swim attire. Only clean, appropriate attire designed for swimming is permitted. No street clothes, T-shirts, cut-offs, sports bras, thongs, sheer swimsuits, compression shorts, and undergarments are allowed. Aquatics staff reserves the right to determine whether or not swimwear is permissible to be worn within our facility.
- Please shower before entering the pool.
- No suntan oil is allowed on the deck or in the pool.
- Running, rough play (dunking, splashing, etc.), and ball throwing is prohibited.
- Diving, flips, cartwheels, handstands, and backwards/spinning jumps from the side of the pool are prohibited.
- Diving includes water polo teams
- Do not hang on lane lines. Do not sit on the disabled lift unless you require it to enter the pool.
- Kickboards and pull buoys are for lap swimmers only.
- Skateboards must be locked on the racks in the lobby and cannot be brought to the pool area
- Patrons with a cold, virus, communicable disease, open wounds, or ear or nasal discharge are not allowed in the pool.
- Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian at all times in the pool and pool area.
- Lifeguards may request a swim test for children wanting to swim in the deep water.
- Infants and toddlers are required to wear plastic pants or swim diapers in the pool.
- Pool toys such as noodles and diving rings are allowed under adult supervision and at the discretion of the lifeguard staff. Other toys may be allowed if deemed safe and appropriate by the lifeguards.
- Children who are not “water safe” must be within an arm’s reach of an adult at all times while in the water.
- “Water safe” is defined as a child who can safely tread water, control breathing, and demonstrate forward momentum above and below the water surface. Lifeguards have the discretionary authority to require an adult to be in the water with any minor.
- Flotation devices are not permitted unless they are Coast Guard Approved Personal Flotation Devices.
- Free swim patrons must give priority to lap swimmers.
- No training of minors or other individuals allowed.
- Pool Ratios: 1 lifeguard per 25 swimmers; the pool will be closed for capacity if there are 50 people in the pool water, and/or 75 people in the pool and/or pool area.

Memberships
- Use of the Bellomy Field, Degheri Tennis Center, Pat Malley Fitness and Recreation Center (Malley Center), and Sullivan Aquatic Center is provided free of charge to current registered students, faculty, staff, and retirees with a valid ACCESS credential (card or mobile). During summer sessions, students continuing and enrolled for all summer sessions will have uninterrupted access free of charge. Students only enrolled in one of the summer sessions will only have free access during that session. Students not enrolled in a summer session must purchase a summer membership for that session or sessions to gain access to the Malley Center and Sullivan Aquatic Center.
- Current students, faculty, staff, and retirees that are active members of the facility may obtain a Malley Center Membership card for their spouse, currently free of charge. During summer sessions, spouses of students whose spouse is continuing and enrolled for all summer sessions will have uninterrupted access free of charge. Spouses of students only enrolled in one of the summer sessions will only have free access during that session. Spouses of students not enrolled in a summer session must purchase a summer membership for that session or sessions provided their spouse has an active membership.
- Alumni are eligible to purchase a membership. A variety of membership options are available. See the membership section of our website for details or see the Malley Center Front Desk Staff.
- Spouses of alumni may purchase a membership provided their spouse is a member.
- The general public is not eligible for membership.
- All memberships can be acquired or purchased at the Malley Center Front Desk during business hours. We accept cash, check, Visa or Mastercard if there is money due.
ID policy
- Participants gain entry into all facilities used by Campus Recreation, including the Malley Center, Bellomy Field, Degheri Tennis Center, and Sullivan Aquatic Center by using their ACCESS credentials (mobile or card). Malley Center Membership cards are only valid for access to the Malley Center & Sullivan Aquatic Center.
- Any attempt to gain or provide unauthorized entry into athletic and recreation facilities may result in suspension of privileges.
- All ACCESS credentials (mobile or card), and Malley Center Membership cards are non-transferable.
- Members who forget their valid ACCESS credential (mobile or card) or Malley Center Membership card may check-in to the facilities by presenting a valid government-issued photo ID to the Campus Recreation Staff. All members will be permitted to enter the building with an alternative photo ID once per quarter. After the first “lookup” participants who fail to bring a valid ACCESS credential (card or mobile) or Malley Center Membership card will be required to return to the facility with their card.
- Lost or stolen Malley Center Membership cards can be replaced for a nominal fee.
- Campus Recreation Staff reserves the right to perform random identification checks at all our facilities to ensure the safety and security of all our patrons.
Guests
- Guests are welcome to use the Malley Center and the Sullivan Aquatic Center. Bellomy Field, Degheri Tennis Center, and other outdoor recreation facilities are not available to guests.
- There is a nominal fee per guest per visit per day. All guest passes are non-refundable.
- Guests must be 18 years of age or older
- Guests and their sponsoring member must register with the Campus Recreation Staff upon entry into the facilities. Guests must present a valid government-issued photo ID with proof of age.
- Sponsoring members must know their guests and accompany their guests for the duration of their use of the facilities.
- Guests are not eligible to enroll/participate in any Campus Recreation programs. Exception: during summer hours only – guests may purchase a fitness pass in addition to their guest fee.
- Guests are not allowed to bring their children.
- Multiple visit guest passes (valid for four visits) are available at the Malley Center Front Desk for a nominal fee. The guest passes are non-refundable, non-transferable, and Campus Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen cards. The guest must show a valid government-issued photo ID when he/she uses the guest pass and still must come in with his/her sponsoring member.
- Guests are not permitted to check out equipment from the Malley Center Front Desk.
- Guests of Conference Services staying on campus may elect to purchase a weekly pass for all their participants through Conference Services. Groups that do not elect to purchase passes through Conference Services have the option for the individual participants to purchase passes themselves at the Malley Center Front Desk to use the Malley Center or Sullivan Aquatic Center. These passes must be paid for at the time of signing up & the group must be on the list of summer conference groups on campus at that time.
The Campus Recreation Staff cannot sponsor the general public.
Minors
- Minor children (under 18 years of age) of students, faculty, staff, and alumni may enter the facility free of charge.
- Children (over 18 years of age) of students, faculty, staff, and alumni may be sponsored as a guest for the nominal guest fee.
- For all minor children, a Minor Registration Form must be completed by the parent or legal guardian annually.
- A parent or legal guardian must accompany their minor/child/children under the age of 18 at all times within recreation facilities. Minor children under the age of 16 are not permitted to use the Malley Center Weight Room.

In addition to the General Policies, the Weight Room Policies are:
- Please spray all equipment including dumbbells, plates, bars, etc. after use to reduce the risk of dangerous infections. Spray paper towels, not the electronic components for cardio machines. Allow spray to dry before the next user for approximately five (5) minutes. Do not clean Peloton screens. Campus Recreation staff will clean with the appropriate cleaner.
- The use of chalk is not permitted.
- It is important that all participants maintain control of their weights at all times. Weights are not to be dropped or thrown.
- Patrons that use the platform for deadlifts should drop the weights from their waist and not from any higher. The platform is the only location in the weight room for deadlifting or other lifting with Olympic bars.
- Heavy dumbbells slam balls and the battle rope must be used on the rubber floor area only.
- No stepping on upholstery. Please use the Plyo boxes for all step-ups.
- Do not throw medicine balls or slam balls against the walls or windows.
- Users must wear clothing with no belts, buttons, or studs.
- No unsafe or damaging modifications of the equipment, such as stacking boxes, putting weight plates on pins on cable machines, etc.
- Safety collars must be used on Olympic bars and curl bars at all times.
- Weight belts and spotters are recommended for all heavy-lifting exercises.
- Participants are not to interfere or distract other individuals during their workout.
- All equipment must be used for its designed function. Please do not stack equipment on top of other equipment.
- Weight Room use is restricted to use by individuals 16 years of age and older.
- All weight plates should be removed from equipment and returned to the appropriate rack after each use.
- All equipment must remain in the weight room and not to be taken to the patio or other areas of the facility.
- Participants are advised to vacate machines between sets to allow others to work out in between sets.
- All cardiovascular machine use is limited to 30 minutes, including warm-up and cool-down, when others are waiting.
- Weight Room Attendants are not personal trainers and can only show patrons how to use the equipment; they cannot provide advice on exercise programs.
- No personal training sessions and training of minors or other individuals.
- Organized groups of 5 or more people may not work out together.
