Faculty Resources

Faculty are crucial to fostering a culture of integrity at SCU.
Clear, effective, and consistent communication about academic integrity with students ensures that there is a mutual understanding of what is considered to be appropriate behavior during assessments. Students are also encouraged to ask faculty questions about academic integrity to clarify expectations of individual and collaborative learning.

Some of the ways that faculty can reinforce the importance of academic integrity and the significance of the Academic Integrity Pledge include the following:

  • Make conversations about academic integrity an ongoing part of courses
  • Include a statement of academic integrity and the text of the pledge in the syllabus and course website
  • Discuss the importance of integrity in their own scholarship and in their discipline
  • Use the pledge in conjunction with assignments and tests
  • Discuss academic standards for their particular discipline, class, and assignments (e.g. forms of citation, acceptable and unacceptable collaboration); it is the responsibility of the faculty member to make explicit what behaviors are appropriate
  • Discuss the consequences of violating academic integrity with your students in terms of your class and any departmental policies
  • Report violations of academic integrity to the Office of Student Life
  • Review the process that the Office of Student Life uses when a student is reported for a violation of academic integrity
