The Alumni Association values all members of the Santa Clara University Alumni Family – regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, religion, age, or social and economic status – and is enriched by this diverse community. On March 30, 2017, the Alumni Association Board of Directors unanimously approved a resolution to reaffirm these values and reinforce our commitment to inclusiveness and equality.
Resolution for Diversity and Inclusion
WHEREAS, Santa Clara University was founded in 1851 as a Jesuit, Catholic institution serving to care for the most marginalized among us, and to cultivate the cross-cultural understanding that is necessary to address the tremendous problems facing our divided world; and
WHEREAS, Santa Clara University seeks to educate citizens and leaders of competence, conscience, and compassion; and
WHEREAS, the Alumni Association fosters passion for the University, inspires lifelong connections, and encourages Santa Clara values to live on within the Santa Clara University family; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Directors serves as the collective voice of all 96,000+ alumni around the world and serves as the representative body in the Santa Clara University Alumni Association; and
WHEREAS, building upon shared values, the Alumni Association initiates and leads programs that support Santa Clara's Catholic, Jesuit mission, while advancing the University's key goals; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Santa Clara University Alumni Association Board of Directors affirms that the Alumni Association serves to engage and inspire all Santa Clara Broncos; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Alumni Association affirms the value of all members of the Santa Clara University Alumni Family, regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, religion, or social and economic status; and is enriched by its diverse community; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Santa Clara University Alumni Association and its Board of Directors shall actively pursue opportunities to make our community more inclusive, compassionate, and just; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a statement in support of diversity and inclusion will be written and disseminated to the Santa Clara University community and more broadly through Santa Clara University’s social media channels and members of the Bay Area news media.
