3-Point Thursday
- Best in Class: Leon Panetta ’60, J.D. ’63, the former U.S. Secretary of Defense, was inducted into the California Hall of Fame this week as part of its 17th class. He joins past inductees Brandi Chastain ’91, Greg Boyle, S.J., STM ’86, and other California legends whose achievements have changed the state, the nation, and the world.
Editor’s Note: Although he was active in student government, Leon Panetta ’60, J.D. ’63 was incorrectly listed as student body president in a previous edition of this email. The Alumni Association apologizes to the Class of 1960 and Lou Castruccio ’60, Student Body President 1959-60. We congratulate Secretary Panetta for his induction into the California Hall of Fame.
- Stars Aligning: Broncos are shining on the big stage! Congratulations to Jalen Williams ’23 and Brandin Podziemski ’25, who will jump in on the NBA’s All-Star weekend as competitors in the 2024 Panini Rising Stars mini-tournament. Duke, Auburn, and Kentucky are the only other schools with more than one alumnus selected.
- 35 Years Later: Madi Smith ’24 often heard stories from her dad, Jeremy Smith ’91, about the 1989 NCAA Champion SCU men’s soccer team. Take a trip down memory lane in The Santa Clara as Madi speaks with her dad’s teammates about the historic season that gave the team an extended family that’s hung together for more than three decades.
Go Broncos!
