Alumni News

A Couple of Entrepreneurs
On Saturday, Sept. 6, hundreds of Broncos will return to campus for Vintage Santa Clara. And alumni aren’t just attending the event—many of the vendors are Bronco-owned or -operated! Learn about the alumni couples behind The Pasta Market (Bob ’85 and Julia Collins ’84) and Testarossa Winery (Rob ’86 and Diana Jensen ’88, Instagram account required).
Still need your tickets for Vintage? Grab them before it’s too late!

Endangered Species Savior
During his time as a student, Justen Whittall ’96 came across a beautiful succulent while hiking. Now a conservation geneticist (and a professor at SCU), he’s made it his mission to save the Dudleya setchellii, otherwise known as the Santa Clara Valley “liveforever.” Learn how his curiosity is helping this endangered plant thrive again.
From Space to Securities
At just 16, Kairan Quazi ’23—SCU’s youngest-ever graduate and former SpaceX engineer—turned down AI and Big Tech jobs to join the finance sector. Inspired by his mother’s background in investment banking and the chance to see the impact of his work sooner, he’s making the exciting leap to a new industry.
Mini Intestines, Big Breakthrough
Meet GastroScreen: an organoid the size of a Nerds candy, packed with blood vessels, nerves, and muscle, co-created by Madeline Eiken ’19. This miniature model of the intestines offers a faster, more humane way to test new drugs—and shrink the timeline from lab tests to life-changing treatments.
And the Award Goes To ...
When you think of Santa Clara University’s values, is there a particular Bronco who comes to mind? Show your appreciation for all they do by nominating them for one of four distinguished Alumni Awards.
