Dr. Tammy L. Madsen is the W.M. Keck Foundation Chair and Professor of Strategic Management and Innovation at Santa Clara University's Leavey School of Business, where she has served as Senior Associate Dean of Faculty Research and Associate Dean of Graduate Programs. She teaches in the MBA, Executive MBA, and Executive Development programs. Her research and teaching intersect strategy, innovation, and evolutionary dynamics, with particular focus on co-innovation platforms, ecosystem strategy, temporary advantage, and strategic growth under uncertainty.

Dr. Madsen is President of the Academy of Management and was a finalist for the 2023 Thinkers50 Strategy Award. Her scholarship has appeared in the Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, the Strategic Management Review, the Journal of Management Studies, and Industrial and Corporate Change, and has received awards from the Academy of Management's Strategic Management Division, including the Glueck Best Paper Award. She is co-author of Co-Innovation Platforms: A Playbook for Enabling Innovation and Ecosystem Growth (Palgrave Macmillan) with David Cruickshank and the fourth edition of Modern Competitive Strategy (McGraw-Hill) with Gordon Walker.

She serves as Associate Editor of the Strategic Management Review, Area Editor for Strategic Management at the Oxford Research Encyclopedia, and on multiple editorial review boards. She serves on the advisory board of the Global Innovation Institute and regularly provides expert commentary, with appearances on ABC7, NBC, and CNBC, and coverage in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and Fortune.

Dr. Madsen began her career as a test and evaluation engineer on F-14 weapon control systems before working as a design engineer and program manager at Delco Electronics, GM. She holds a Ph.D. from UCLA, an M.S. in Systems Management from USC, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UC Santa Barbara. At Santa Clara, she has received more than 21 Extraordinary Faculty Awards and the University President's Special Recognition Award. When she is not writing about ecosystems, she is surfing in them, preferably in warm Hawaiian water with rainbows overhead.
