Alex Field : Influential American Inventors : The Washington Post
Research by Alex Field, Michel and Mary Orradre Professor of Economics, that argued the height of American technological innovation took place during the Great Depression, was referenced in a Washington Post article on the influence of American inventors.
“Most people wouldn’t think of a decade in which the unemployment rate was mostly in double digits as being a likely candidate for a lot of technological advances,” Field said. He argues that technological advancements made during this time paved the way for the rapid industrial and economic expansion that followed the Great Depression.
