Jason Leon: Making an Impact in My Community
My first experiences working for the Hispanic Foundation of Silicon Valley have been as memorable as can be. Immediately, I was asked to begin creating media and designing content for their annual Hispanic Foundation Ball, an event that unites together hundreds of people with one common goal: to raise money for the various HFSV programs that create opportunities for the Hispanic and Latinx communities around Silicon Valley. This proved to be a valuable experience, because I was able to learn quickly and efficiently while also getting to collaborate with other departments in the office.
One thing that surprised me about the organization was how close and tight-knit everyone was. I knew it was a small office before I even started, but I did not realize how that allowed for everyone to work closely together and collaborate often. Even the board members of the organization are very communicative and involved.
Working at HFSV has been very rewarding and insightful thus far, and I feel honored to have been included in an event like HFB so soon into my fellowship. My supervisor has also been very supportive and engaging, leading to me wanting to have as much of an impact as I can. Working for an organization that looks to empower the Hispanic and Latinx community aligns perfectly with my goals, so I look forward to contributing and leaving my mark by the time the end of the year rolls around.
