Morgan Hunter: Building Blocks for Success
In my first two months at Cristo Rey San José (CRSJ), I’ve seen firsthand the impact of community support in the lives of the students. CRSJ is driven in its mission to provide a faith-based education that supports the students’ whole identity. High school education is a critical component of college success. More than that, the relationships and skills learned are building blocks for future accomplishments. Connections with educators and advisors who want the best for their students, as
well as courses to meet a wide range of learning styles, are just some of the elements of a CRSJ education that help students better prepare for college and their careers. I’ve been fortunate to learn so much about CRSJ and the power of a well-rounded education.
Being part of the Advancement team has provided me the opportunity to understand more about nonprofit organizations and the unique structures that make it possible to make positive contributions in the community. Never having worked in such an environment before, I was most surprised about the level of coordination that is required to execute deliverables and reach a target audience. Although I had some marketing experience going into this role, the importance of marketing efforts for nonprofits was something that I had not realized. More than creativity and Canva, the marketing team at CRSJ works with numerous platforms to strategically communicate with potential donors, families, alumni, and students.
My favorite part of my work is the community at CRSJ, including the group of women on my team who continuously support my work and listen to my ideas. I’ve also been delighted to have opportunities to further engage with students. In the beginning of November, I joined volunteers to provide guidance for students' college applications. Going forward, I hope to contribute to Cristo Rey by continuing to work on projects that highlight the stories of individuals in the community. I’m also looking forward to keeping up with my videography practice with the objective of creating meaningful content that embodies the Lion Spirit. Overall, I am so happy to be a part of CRSJ and enthusiastic about the work ahead!
