Crafting Stories and Creating Change: Launching an Exposé for the Refugee Foster Care Program

Sofie Fisher
Reflecting on my first month as the Marketing and Outreach Intern for the Refugee Foster Care Program at Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County, I am deeply grateful for the community I’ve become a part of and the incredible team I have the privilege of working with. The Refugee Foster Care Program's mission is truly inspiring—it places refugee youth at the center of its work, ensuring they receive the support and resources they need to thrive in their new home.

What makes this role especially meaningful to me is the trust and encouragement I received early on to propose a new project. Within just a few weeks, I was given the support and flexibility to develop an initiative that would have a lasting impact on the program. I’m thrilled to share that after numerous discussions and careful planning, my project was approved. I will be creating an exposé that features personal stories from the diverse community within the Refugee Foster Care Program. By highlighting the experiences of refugee youth graduates, social workers, and resource families, my goal is to craft a compelling narrative that encapsulates the heart of the program’s mission.

This project not only aims to raise awareness about the vital work being done, but also to inspire others to contribute their time and resources to support the cause. As the first LSB Fellow to work with the Refugee Foster Care Program, I’m honored to help pave the way for future interns and look forward to seeing the program continue to grow and make a lasting difference in the lives of refugee youth.
