Areas of Interest at SCU and Leavey: What I have loved about my first year at SCU was the opportunity to be able to explore the different passions that I have, academic and not academic related. It has helped me create a life here with a social and academic balance. I have been involved in the Leavey Ambassador Program, which I have been able to meet a lot of peers from different grades with the same passions as me, and in the Women in Business club, where I have met like-minded girls and sharpen my skills. I have also found community within the Hipnotiks club, where I get to continue to participate in my passion for dance throughout the week, and Barkada, the Filipino association on campus.

What are your SCU and Leavey activities/general hobbies: Aside from that I listed above, I love to take walks in Mission Gardens in the mornings, take the free workout classes at Malley (core and cardio circuit is my favorite!), and go on Cherry Garcia ice cream runs at the cellar!

What internship/employment opportunities have you taken advantage of at Leavey? At the beginning of the year, I had to the opportunity to explore the career fair that the Career Center hosts! It was super cool to meet so many familiar brands to me, like Gap or Uniqlo, and explore the different internships I could possibly pursue in the future. I thought it was great practice for networking and putting yourself out there.

Favorite Leavey Class and Why?  My favorite LSB class so far has had to be OMIS 15. Although it was a challenging class, I found it super interesting, as I have never taken a class like this. It was also extremely practical and something that I will definitely use in my career.

What made you choose to attend Leavey? I chose to pursue my passions at LSB due to the location, community, and opportunities offered by the school. Being in the Silicon Valley, we are truly in the prime place to gain internships and experience that is not necessarily accessible at other schools. Additionally, during Preview Day, I was able to meet the other Leavey ambassadors and professors, who were extremely welcoming and willing to help in any way possible. Being a first-year student, I have been seen all of the countless communications for resume workshops, career fairs, interview prep sessions, and peer advising openings. You truly have the resources to make these four years what you make of it!

What advice you wish you had while applying to college? The advice that I would give when applying to colleges is to remind yourself that your identity is not found in whatever college you attend. When deciding, it should not come down to pressure but a peace coming from choosing where you will thrive the most! It can be difficult when it is so easy to compare yourself to your peers, but trust that God has a greater and specific plan for you!
