Areas of Interest at SCU and LSB: I am a Finance and Economics major and am also interested in pursuing a concentration in data analysis within the Economics major. I hope to develop my leadership skills as I continue to be involved in various organizations, both business-related and otherwise.
What are your SCU and LSB activities/general hobbies: I currently serve as Culture Show Director for Intandesh, the South Asian culture club on campus, and am involved with various organizations such as Women in Business and Women in Investment as well. Outside of these, you can probably find me dancing, enjoying a good book, drawing, or spending time with my friends and family.
What internship/employment opportunities have you taken advantage of at LSB: The process of applying and securing an internship can be very intimidating, but SCU and LSB have a lot of great resources to help students with this. I took MGMT 50, a professional development course, which helped me feel more confident about and comfortable with the internship process. I've utilized Handshake as a resource to apply for internships and attend various events hosted on campus to network and connect with companies.
Favorite LSB Class and Why? My favorite class thus far has been ACTG 11 - Intro to Financial Accounting. The class provides a comprehensive understanding of fundamental accounting principles and financial analysis techniques, which I have found valuable as I move on to my finance courses. Additionally, we completed a team project analyzing financial statements for a set of companies, allowing us to understand how investors might utilize these statements to make decisions. This project also provided us with a way to apply the accounting principles we learned throughout the course.
What made you choose to attend LSB? One of the biggest factors in my decision to attend SCU's Leavey School of Business was the small class sizes, which has allowed me to connect with not only my peers, but my professors as well. I've received personalized help and been able to create connections that go beyond the classroom. Another aspect of LSB I liked was the ability to start taking business classes from my first quarter, and that the core curriculum allows us to be exposed to the different business disciplines before we have to declare our major.
What advice you wish you had while applying to college? When choosing a college, whether in the application phase or decisions later on, take the time to research schools holistically. It's very easy to focus primarily on academic rankings and prestige, but the community you choose to surround yourself with will make your college experience. Look into clubs, organizations, things to do around the area. Visit the campus if you can and talk to current students. Most importantly, make your decision for you. Try not to make it solely based on what you hear from other people because you're the one who's going to be there for the next four years. At the end of the day, you should be happy with where you're going!
