Areas of Interest at SCU and Leavey: I am currently an Accounting & Information Systems Student with a minor in Responsible Artificial Intelligence. I'm interested in being a part of business and technology sectors, especially with how finance and data systems will contribute to the future of business in Silicon Valley.
What are your SCU and Leavey activities/general hobbies: Apart from being in Leavey Ambassadors, I am also a Teaching Assistant for the Leavey School of Business and am involved in the Investment Club, Accounting Association, Information Student Network, Real Estate Institute, and Women in Business. In my free time, I love swimming, trying new recipes to bake, and traveling!
What internship/employment opportunities have you taken advantage of at Leavey? One of the strongest parts of the Leavey School of Business is its resources to help its students succeed in professional development. I've utilized the opportunities offered by attending the various events that they hold, guest speaker panels, workshops, and career fairs. More importantly, I've built strong relationships within my network, including my professors, faculty at LSB, business professionals, SCU alumni, upperclassmen, and peers of my age, all of whom have contributed to supporting me in my personal and career growth.
Favorite Leavey Class and Why? My favorite LSB class was Contemporary Business Issues (BUSN 70) with Professor Michael Holubar. I really enjoyed learning about the different components of the business sector and actually putting my knowledge to practice in a quarter-long business operations simulation called Mike's Bikes. One of the most valuable parts of this class was definitely hearing about Professor Holubar's personal experience in the business world. BUSN 70 is a unique class offered at the Leavey School of Business that is taught by professors with an extensive background in corporate management. I thoroughly found value in hearing the lessons that led them to become successful because I could apply them to my own life and goals.
What made you choose to attend Leavey? I chose to attend the Leavey School of Business because of its invaluable location in Silicon Valley, the resources offered, the small class sizes, and the strength of its alumni network. Silicon Valley is the central hub for large established companies and quantitatively growing ones. Attending school in the center of this location is crucial for building close connections with business professionals at these companies, and nurturing those relationships for professional growth builds a strong foundation for a lifetime career. Additionally, the Leavey School of Business offers innumerable resources to help its students in any way to succeed, and these are distributed among a more intimate student body due to the school's size, allowing each student to fully maximize their gains and potential. Similarly, the smaller class sizes allow students to build meaningful and personal relationships with their professors, which is a definitive factor in getting the most out of an education. Lastly, LSB's alumni network is strong and close-knit. Even before school officially started, families and incoming students were invited to gatherings hosted by SCU alumni worldwide, who invited them into their homes and shared their experiences and advice. All of these factors made it clear that attending the Leavey School of Business was a meaningful investment in my future.
What advice you wish you had while applying to college? Know that the college process is about finding the right fit for you. It's easy to focus on rankings or where other people are applying, but none of that will matter or affect you once you enter and attend college. This is your life! Finding a place that supports your personal, social, academic, and professional goals and priorities is the most important because it will make all the difference. At the same time, remember that your success ultimately comes from you. Wherever you go, if you approach your experience with drive and the right mindset, you will get out what you put in and create the opportunities that you want for yourself.
