Areas of Interest at SCU and LSB:
Here at Santa Clara University, I am a senior finance major and history minor. I am looking to pursue a career in the world of finance. After graduation I am hoping to work in either corporate finance or as an analyst for a venture capital firm.
What are your SCU and LSB activities/general hobbies?
At Santa Clara University, I am currently involved with the Leavey Ambassadors program and was formerly a peer advisor within the LSB. I enjoy assisting with any advice or questions that younger students may have and am happy to help with anything my peers may need. In my free time, I am usually consumed by the world of sports. I watch a ton of soccer, baseball, and play as much tennis as I can. In addition, I have spent many weekends skiing in Vermont and Lake Tahoe. Skiing is a huge passion of mine as I was an instructor for two winter seasons in Vermont.
What global experiences have you had in college?
Being from the East Coast, I have enjoyed meeting other students from around the country. It has allowed me to experience road-tripping out to California visiting friends and exploring new cities along the way.
Additionally, I spent the fall quarter of my junior year studying abroad in London. I was so grateful for the opportunity to intern for a company while I was there as well. It was so interesting to learn the differences in corporate culture between the United States and the U.K. That opportunity has even opened my eyes to working internationally one day in the future. Living, working, and travelling throughout Europe was a fantastic experience that I will never forget. I would recommend studying abroad to any student here at SCU.
Favorite LSB class. Why?
So far, my favorite LSB class has been FNCE 186, Applied Financial Modelling. Although it has been difficult, the course is very applicable to my future career aspirations. The course is Microsoft Excel driven where we have built financial models that examined DCF analyses, event analyses, and more. A financial model takes a lot of time, effort, and data to put together, but I love the intricacies of them.
What made you choose to attend LSB?
I really liked the idea of going to school in the heart of Silicon Valley as there are a tremendous amount of opportunities in the area. Additionally, I wanted to continue with the values and teachings of Jesuit education as I attended a Jesuit high school back in Connecticut. So far, I have loved being forced to expand my horizons and enjoy life on the West Coast.
What advice you wish you had while applying to college?
Some advice that I wish that I had would definitely have been to focus on the feeling you get while visiting schools. I think many other students would agree with me when I say that SCU really feels like home. I encourage all prospective students to think about this, rather than being so overwhelmed with reputations and constantly comparing themselves to others.
