What are you doing this summer? This summer, I worked as a Finance Intern at Varian on the Procurement team within their Radiation Oncology Systems business line. I supported topics such as supplier evaluation, readiness assessments, and developed a dashboard to track supplier consolidation and localization initiatives that drive cost savings for the business.
Hopefully you’ve grown both professionally and personally from this summer experience. Name one or two “life” lessons you learned and will carry forward after graduation. I learned the value of being adaptable and open to learning in new situations. Each task required me to pick up new skills and information quickly while adjusting to shifting priorities, which taught me how to adapt quickly and still contribute meaningfully even in unfamiliar circumstances.
What has been the most memorable part of your experience? One of the most memorable parts of my summer was presenting my project to leadership and helping develop and implement a process to ensure the tool could be used effectively to support ongoing initiatives. It was incredibly rewarding to see my work translate into tangible impact, knowing it would help the team make more informed decisions and drive meaningful results.
What advice would you give to younger students who are searching for summer opportunities? Be open to all opportunities, even if they don’t look exactly as you imagined, because every experience offers valuable lessons and can open unexpected doors. Rather than comparing your journey to others, focus on finding what’s right for you and making the most of the opportunity you land.
