Dear College Faculty and Staff,
The new academic year is upon us! As I noted at Convocation on Tuesday, every beginning of an academic year means we have a ton of work ahead of us, making summer all the more precious. It’s clear many of you—of us—have accomplished a lot over the past three months. I hope you have also been able to rest and recharge.
We have some big projects facing campus this academic year – finishing a strategic plan, hiring a provost, and – deep breath – starting the process of revising our core curriculum. Each of those projects will preoccupy us in the Dean’s Office quite a lot. And it always seems to be the case that College faculty and staff figure prominently in important, campus-wide, collective efforts; this year will be no different. All that said, I strongly encourage you to participate in these endeavors to the extent that you can – we need all of the voices from the College we can get!
Thank you to all who attended our annual Convocation event this week. It’s truly a joy to have a time for us all to come together and celebrate the College and each other before the craziness of the year sets in. Congratulations to all of our faculty and staff who received awards this year! Your contributions to the College are extremely important and appreciated.
This Welcome Weekend and start of classes has extra significance for me as we begin the Days of Awe between Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) – indeed, for some of us, it is a new year not just academically, but even quite literally!
In this new year, I pray that each of you will be inscribed and sealed in the Book of Life!
