Dear Sociology Community, Alumni, and Friends,
Thank you once again to our sociology community, alumni, parents of alumni, community members, and everyone who has supported us in so many ways. The support of all of you, and so many before you, has allowed us to bring exciting speakers to campus, to mentor our students, to fund our students as research assistants as well as to attend professional conferences which help us keep up with our teaching and research. As you will see in the stories that follow, our students have gotten lots of experience this year doing both quantitative and qualitative research, presenting at research conferences, publishing in our journal, and winning awards for their work.
We also have great updates from our faculty. We are especially excited that Drs. Di Di and Molly King received tenure this past spring. Molly and Di Di both started their careers at SCU in the Fall of 2019, and they weathered all the changes in teaching during and post the pandemic, have become very accomplished scholars, and have improved our department in so many ways. The six-year-long tenure process is an arduous one, and we are both proud and humbled by their hard work and dedication to our department and students.
As you will see, we are also saying goodbye to Dr. Enrique Pumar, who first came to the department in the fall of 2017 as our department Chair. Dr. Pumar was awarded emeritus status, which means he will still answer his SCU emails from us :). We thank Dr. Pumar for all he has done for the department, and we know he will continue to give back to sociology in so many ways.
We hope you enjoy our updates and seeing our latest group of sociology students. And if you haven’t already, please do join our department’s LinkedIn page and contact us if you are coming to campus. We would love to see you!
Sincerely, Your Sociology Department at SCU
