Resources to support your social wellbeing

Social Wellness

refers to the relationships we have and how we interact with others. Our relationships can offer support during difficult times. Social wellness involves building healthy, nurturing, and supportive relationships as well as fostering a genuine connection with those around you.

Attributes that distinguish social wellness

  • Respect for other cultures
  • Multi-cultural competence
  • Interpersonal relationships
  • Family
  • Fairness and justice
  • Tolerance and acceptance
  • Concern and community welfare

Resources

Santa Clara University has over 200 different student organizations to become involved with in order to meet and build relationships with others. The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) oversees Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) and Chartered Student Organizations (CSOs). We are sure you will be able to find a variety of your interest to get involved with.

If you do not find your interest in CSI, there are many other departments and programs that have involvement opportunities - for example, Campus Ministry offers two student faith-sharing groups Spiritual Life Community (SLC) and the Christian Life Community (CLC). You are welcome to participate regardless of religious affiliation, and we will do our best to pair you with a group that shares a similar affinity.

For our students living off-campus, please utilize Off Campus Living and the Neighborhood Ambassadors for information regarding events, resources, and neighborhood happenings. Subscribe to OCL's newsletter or follow IG: scuoffcampus to stay connected and updated.

Still, having trouble finding a spot for you? Continue reviewing the eight dimensions of wellness pages, and the Get Connected page. There are many resources highlight for you to get involved and connected on campus.

Reflection questions

The reflection questions provided are based on the five steps of the Ignatian Examen: Give Thanks, Review, Reflect, Resolve, and Look Ahead.

  • What is a recent moment that someone else has brought me joy?
  • Have I had recent experiences when I have connected with a stranger?

2. Review

  • How am I spending my time socially?
  • Am I being a good friend or family member to others?
  • Are others being good friends or family members to me?
  • Am I an active member of my community?

3. Reflect

  • How do my friends and family members make me feel?
  • Do I share with others that I am grateful for our relationships?
  • Are there any relationships that I don’t put as much effort into?

4. Resolve

  • Is there anyone that I need to apologize to or forgive?
  • Are there any moments recently where I did not interact with someone in the way that I wanted to?
  • Are there any moments when I have been with others but not been fully present?

5. Look Ahead

  • Are there any goals I want to set for my relationships?
  • How can I more actively reach out to others?
  • Who are the people who encourage me to be the best version of myself?
  • How can I ensure that I am fully present with those around me?
