Ling Lam, Ph.D. is a Lecturer (Academic Year) in the Counseling Psychology Department where he teaches courses on Complex Trauma, Crisis Intervention, LGBT Counseling, Family Therapy, Couple Therapy and Multicultural Psychotherapy. Ling is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a part-time practice in Palo Alto and San Francisco. He holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, a M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University, a M.S. in Electrical Engineering and a B.S. (with distinction) in Electrical Engineering, both from Stanford University. Ling was also a graduate of the Interpersonal Dynamics Facilitation Training Program at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. While at Stanford, Ling was a recipient of the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship and was named President’s Scholar, Terman Scholar, and National Tau Beta Pi-Fife Fellow. He was the founding Clinical Director of the San Jose chapter of A Home Within, the largest national non-profit dedicated to serving the emotional needs of foster children, and continues to provide pro-bono therapy through A Home Within as well as Give An Hour Foundation, a non-profit serving the mental health needs of military veterans and their families. Before he became a licensed therapist, Ling worked as an engineer in Silicon Valley and was part of the original engineering team that invented the world’s first HDMI chip.
