Christine Quince, Ph.D. is a proud Detroiter, researcher, teacher educator, and Assistant Professor in the School of Education and Counseling Psychology. As a Teacher Education faculty member, she’ll focus on helping preservice teachers understand and implement a culturally relevant pedagogy by building their knowledge of critical theories and guiding them to apply these concepts in practice. In her research, Dr. Quince examines the pedagogical decisions teachers make and how their decisions incorporate Black students, their home culture, and community knowledge. Her research is aimed towards helping educators critique their practice, shift towards an asset-orientation of Black students, and improve the academic success of Black students.
 
Dr. Quince holds a BA in Elementary Education, MA in Educational Studies, and PhD in Educational Studies– Teaching and Teaching Education, all from the University of Michigan. During her tenure at the University of Michigan, she was honored with the university's Diversity, Inclusion, Justice, and Equity Graduate award. Prior to joining SCU, Dr. Quince held a role as a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Berkeley.
