Melina Johnson has been teaching in the MATTC program since 2011 and currently serves as the Coordinator of Field Experience for single subject candidates. She is a native of the Bay Area and an SCU alumna, with a Bachelor’s degree in English and Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Education (emphasis in Character Education).
Dr. Johnson taught middle-grades English/Language Arts and AVID for over a decade and returned to SCU as an instructor after earning her Doctorate in Learning and Instruction from the University of San Francisco, researching California middle-grades teachers’ knowledge of early adolescent development.
Dr. Johnson is interested in advancing theory to praxis in the preparation of secondary classroom teachers. Her pedagogical approach is centered on a deep emphasis of belonging in the classroom.
