OUR PROGRAM

Santa Clara University's Master of Arts in Teaching and Teaching Credential (MATTC) program prepares teachers to examine and apply critical and socio-cultural theories to create equitable teaching and learning opportunities for all students. MATTC will foster your abilities to support academic competence for all students and to meaningfully engage with the communities you serve. Our program is grounded in asset-based and Ignatian pedagogy with a strong emphasis on critical reflection, care for the whole person (cura personalis), and transformation.

In as little as one year, you can be eligible to earn a California preliminary teaching credential and will be prepared to teach in public, Catholic, or private schools. Our graduates are in high demand because of their commitment to ensuring that all students learn. Our program offers opportunities to earn a bilingual authorization in Spanish and multiple scholarships that can bring down tuition costs significantly. In fact, the SEMILLA Scholarship provides a 50% tuition discount to any selected candidates.

The MATTC program will prepare you to teach in elementary or secondary schools. We now also offer an online program, so you can be part of our MATTC program from anywhere in California.

"SCU School of Education is so welcoming! All of the professors and staff are very helpful and try their best to make sure every student is successful inside and outside of the classroom. Growing up down the street from SCU I have always dreamed of going to school at this great institute. Being a part of the SCU family, it has opened up great doors in careers, knowledge, and lifelong friendships."

Each course was structured in a way where teachers (especially MATTC interns) are able to directly apply what they learn into their next day of teaching. Through the MATTC program, I was able to gain the ability to write meaningful learning targets that incorporate both specific content goals and ELD goals. I learned how to create meaningful assignments that support language development and I discovered how to appropriately group students to welcome peer-to-peer collaboration.
