Jonathan Zhang (bioengineering) received a JOINN Bioinnovation Research grant of $300,000 for 3 years. The grant is renewable every 3 years for bioinnovation and biodiscovery research in the Bay Area. Dr. Zhang will use the fund to support his research in biopharmaceutical research. |

Nam Ling (computer engineering) was appointed as Chair Professor for three years at Fuzhou University, China. Nam and the Computer Engineering Department also received $217,440 from Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. supporting "Research on JVET JEM Video Coding," for future generation coders/decoders. Ling's team has 7 adopted standard contributions with 18 patents filed and 6 granted so far. |

UAV Workshop: Seven universities sent representatives to our workshop on university uses of unmanned aerial vehicles for education, research, and campus operations. Topics included FAA/local/campus guidelines, and policies and procedures developed by attendees to ensure safe and productive flying. |
