Meet the Summer Institute for Humanitarian Technology Team!

  • Silvia Figueira, Computer Engineering
    Professor Computer Science and Engineering, SIHC Program Leader
    Dr. Silvia Figueira

    Dr. Silvia Figueira is co-founder and co-lead of the SIHC program with Dr. Dan Lewis. She assists with the direction of program initiatives, contributes curriculum to the program, shares the responsibility of selecting program participants, and works with partners to identify real-world needs for SIHC participants to work on.

  • Associate Professor of Computer Engineering, SIHC Program Leader

    Dr. Dan Lewis is co-founder and co-lead of the SIHC program with Dr. Silvia Figueira. He manages SIHC team members, directs program initiatives and shares the responsibility of selecting program participants.

  • SIHC Program Coordinator, Director of Programs and Partnerships (Frugal Innovation Lab)

    Elizabeth Sweeny serves as primary coordinator for the SIHC program. She acts as the manager of student assistants, supports the discovery process with Dr. Figueira to identify real-world needs for SIHC participants' projects, and executes on all program outreach and marketing.

  • Technical Writing Instructor

    Dr. Jackie Hendricks is an Academic Year Adjunct Lecturer in the English department. She guides SIHC participants in the writing of their papers and preparation of their posters and presentations.

  • Library Liaison

    Susan Boyd is the library liaison to the School of Engineering and the Mathematics and Computer Science department. As the Engineering/Math Librarian, she provides reference, instruction and collection development services. Susan supports the research efforts of Dr. Jacquelyn Hendricks and the participants in the SIHC.

  • Technical Instructor

    Amr Elkady is an Adjunct Lecturer at the Computer Engineering department and the ​technical instructor for the SIHC program. He teaches ​SIHC students a comprehensive introductory workshop on mobile programming and mobile application development where they get to develop their first set of mobile apps.

  • SIHC Teaching Assistant

    Neela Annamalai serves as teaching assistant for the SIHC program. She helps students to scope out the mobile app using design tools, coach them towards getting approval of application ideas, troubleshoot the actual code implementations, and review technical contents in the posters and conference papers.
