Hiremath, Mahantesh

Biography

Dr. Mahantesh Hiremath has over 25 years in space technology, specifically in design, analysis, manufacturing, integration, and testing of complex commercial communication satellites. He also holds the rare distinction of being among the handful in the world to have designed and analyzed complex systems in four environments – deep underground strategic petroleum reserves, off-shore oil platforms, high-rise buildings, and high-flying geosynchronous satellites.

In June 2020 he was elected to be the next President of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the first Asian and Indian ever chosen for this honor. His term started on 1 July 2021.

Dr. Hiremath joined Santa Clara University as a Lecturer in Fall 2024. Earlier, he served as Vice President at SC Solutions and Senior Technical Director at a Silicon Valley startup SpinLaunch. He also held several important positions at Space Systems Loral, ARES Corporation, Northrop Grumman, and Stellar Solutions.

Dr. Hiremath is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He was also selected as ASME’s Congressional Fellow to serve on Capitol Hill as Technical Advisor to the Science, Space, and Technology Committee of the US House of Representatives. Dr. Hiremath was a member of ASME’s Board of Governors, its highest decision-making body, from 2016 to 2019.

He is an Adjunct Faculty in Civil and Mechanical Engineering at the Santa Clara University. Dr. Hiremath received his M.S. and Ph.D. in Structural Dynamics from The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio. Later, Dr. Hiremath earned the Certificate in Systems Engineering from Stanford University.

Dr. Hiremath is an avid reader and follower of sports and politics. He is a running enthusiast and has so far completed five full marathons. He lives with his wife Laxmi and two boys and grandkids in the San Francisco Bay Area.
