Opening a Career Path to Biotechnology for Underrepresented Students
March 27, 2023—A $300,000 grant from the Genentech Foundation, through their Health Equity and Diversity in STEM Innovation Fund, is enabling Santa Clara University to offer career preparation, specialized learning modules, and stipends to underrepresented or first-generation college students to consider careers in biotechnology or biopharmaceuticals.

Santa Clara University students and faculty have recently completed a groundbreaking virtual reality training program for Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers, which they will be testing at a local dementia care program and a home health agency in Washington, D.C.

On-location filming wraps in the first milestone towards a VR training experience.
Santa Clara University students and faculty recently completed filming a groundbreaking virtual reality training program for Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers. The program walks a caregiver virtually through several scenarios in which a person living with Alzheimer’s becomes agitated, confused or aggressive during sundowning–a common symptom of the disease.
