Anastasiu awarded NSF GRANT
David Anastasiu, Assistant Professor in the Computer Science and Engineering Department at Santa Clara University, has received a nearly $600,000 award from the National Science Foundation to support his CAREER project "Explainable AI for Real-Time Video Anomaly Anticipation".
The award is not only a prestigious recognition of Anastisiu’s accomplishments to date, but also reflective of NSF’s endorsement of the potential of Anastisiu’s project.
Anastasiu will use the $598,259 grant to develop real-time models for anomaly anticipation, i.e., early detection of an anomaly with enough foreknowledge to prevent its occurrence. The proposed methods will be applied to the problem of predicting pedestrian accidents in a smart city environment.
