Build.Plant.Grow. curriculum follows the Lectionary of the Catholic Church
The Center’s Build.Plant.Grow. faith formation program for children is now available for all the Sundays and all the solemnities for all three cycles in the Lectionary of the Catholic Church.
For each Sunday or holiday, the curriculum follows a theme through the day’s readings and a related work of children’s literature. A reading from the Gospel of John may be tied to Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax through the virtue of wisdom. A reading from Exodus is matched with Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel, looking at the virtue of fidelity.
Parishes across the United States are exploring Build.Plant.Grow. as a resource for regular classrooms and Sunday school. Gary Pokory, director of catechesis and youth ministry for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, comments, “Besides providing a fresh approach to breaking open the readings with children, Build.Plant.Grow. is easy to access, to understand, and to use.”
The Rev. Tony Mancuso, assistant director of Character Education at the Center, is the author of the curriculum. He is leading workshops for directors of catechetical education throughout the diocese of San Jose on how to use Build.Plant.Grow.
