Fostering Genuine Conversation

Finding common ground through dialogue

For the past academic year, Taylor Berry has been part of a team of Hackworth Fellows at the Ethics Center, who have been exploring the meaning of free speech and civil discourse. Recently, Berry gave a Tedx talk describing some of her own conclusions about the power of genuine conversation.

She discusses the NFL protest as a prime example of the benefits of having open discussions on tough issues and how we as a society can benefit from these conversations. By offering a few points that can easily be incorporated into anyone’s life, Berry argues that we can gain a better understanding of ourselves and those around us.

Besides being a Hackworth Fellow, Berry is a political science major and a member of the Santa Clara Women’s Basketball Team. She and her Hackworth colleagues write a blog, The Power of Our Voices.  This week they are focusing on the theme, "After Facebook? Reflections on Online Ethics."
