Online Course Reopens
The Ethics Center’s popular Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), Business Ethics for the Real World and Ethics for Managers, are again open for registration. Besides offering the fundamentals of ethical decision making, the courses bring people from a wide range of cultures into conversation about the dilemmas that arise in a business career.
Altogether, the Center has offered four MOOCs enrolling people from 112 countries. Some students even take the courses from countries in the middle of serious conflicts such as Syria and Venezuela.
One graduate of Business Ethics for the Real World, Chukwuma Kingsley Chukwura, a team leader at the Centre for Ethics and Professionalism (CEP) in Nigeria. Chukwura has incorporated the material from the MOOC into a Capacity Building Seminar on Business Ethics, offered by CEP.
The global nature of the MOOCs allows participants to see how people from different cultures respond to typical scenarios that confront anyone pursuing a career in business. The two business courses take students through a framework for ethical decision making and a consideration of the predictable conflicts that may arise from their role in an organization.
The courses are free and may be taken any time before May 28, 2017. They are self-paced and designed to be completed in about eight hours total. Those who finish receive a letter of completion and a digital badge from the instructor, Kirk Hanson, executive director of the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics.
