On April 13, the Ethics Center held a special LinkedIn Live event hosted by Santa Clara University. The hour-long event, “Triaging Covid-19: The Ethical Allocation of Life-Sustaining Resources,” featured panelists Daniel Shin, MD, Infectious Diseases specialist, Palo Alto Medical Foundation and Margaret R. McLean, PhD, Ethics Center associate director and director of Bioethics. David DeCosse, PhD, Ethics Center director of Religious and Catholic Ethics, moderated. Over 150 participants tuned in to the panel, which addressed key ethical issues such protocal for the use of scarce resources such as ventilators, the readiness of our hospitals, what families should expect when a diagnosis is made, and more. This event was part of our Essential Ethics series, short video interviews with leading experts on the ethical implications associated with today’s most pressing issues.
