Podcast series explores "Ethics and Wealth"
Amanuel Bizuneh, a Santa Clara University senior majoring in Political Science and one of this year's Ethics Center's Hackworth Fellows, interviews SCU sophomore and entrepreneur Helen Kassa in his latest 20-minute podcast. Kassa's impressive achievements include speaking at the most recent Women's March in San Jose, meeting Oprah, and being influenced about the problem of global poverty during a visit to Ethiopia for her grandmother's passing when she was only seven. This led her to adopt a school in Ethiopia through a crowdfunding effort when she returned to the United States. Kassa also represented the NAACP as a delegate at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris, and established Girls Lead Forward, a program intended to incentivize young girls to stay in school by leveraging their life experiences and their work in global volunteer initiatives as credits toward graduation. At SCU, Kassa is a senator in ASG (associated student government), and is involved in a variety of sustainability efforts. Kassa, who has worked multiple jobs and been awarded scholarships to fulfill her dreams, has an understanding of the impact of economics in student life, and feels it's important for all of us to understand disparities in wealth and economic hardships among students. In this podcast, Kassa also discusses what a Jesuit education means to her.
