Is There a Right to Be Forgotten?
At a recent presentation at SCU, Luciano Floridi, member of the Google Advisory Council on the Right to Be Forgotten, argued that the right recognized by the European Court was not the right to be forgotten but the right to be de-linked. The Court ruled that people must be given the opportunity to petition search engines to remove the links to certain types of information from a search on their name.
A professor of philosophy and ethics of information at Oxford University, Floridi embedded his discussion of the issue in a larger meditation on the nature of memory, forgiveness, and closure. Center Internet Ethics Director Irina Raicu discusses the talk on her blog, Internet Ethics: Views From Silicon Valley.
