Dear ___________,
Thanks to the generous support of our partners and donors, over the past 30 years, the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics has become a unique and vitally important institution, with significant global impact. The Center is:
- Focused on applied and practical ethical problems in multiple professional fields.
- In a prime location - Silicon Valley - giving it a front row seat to some of the most important ethical questions bedeviling our society.
- Blessed with loyal alumni, donors, and friends across the globe; and with talented staff who bring broad expertise to their many programs.
We have great aspirations for what the Markkula Center can become and can contribute to the world over the next 30 years. We have a unique opportunity because of our scale and success.
Please consider giving to the Center again, in support of our vision of the future:
- We will be the major ethics educator in the world. Our materials are already used by millions of individuals, and by institutions and professional societies, but these will spread further.
- We will develop the ethical character of the next generation by dramatically expanding our internships and fellowships for Santa Clara University students and our curricular materials for our K-12 partners as well. We will create a generation of young leaders who can spot an ethical dilemma and know how to approach it.
- We will be a prominent commentator on ethical developments in society, providing trustworthy analysis on the ethics of breaking issues to an ever-widening set of media platforms. In this way, we can shape the responses of decision makers and the public to the issues and incidents we address.
- And finally, we will expand our capacity to respond quickly and deliver in-depth ethical analysis of unexpected and truly new social and technological problems. We are building the Center’s Opportunity Fund to increase this capability.
You can ensure your participation in our future by making your gift to the Ethics Center today. The welfare and happiness of the next generation and the health of our global society depend on clear ethical thinking and action. The Ethics Center has a critical role to play in creating a more humane and sustainable future for all, and we cannot do it without your support.
With continuing gratitude,
Kirk Hanson
Executive Director
