Dr. Narendra Agrawal is a professor in the department of operations management and information systems (OMIS), and has served on the faculty since 1992. He completed his term as associate dean of faculty in the School of Business in 2015. He was a visiting associate professor at The Wharton School in 1999-2000 and 2000-2001, and at Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, in 2004 and 2006. He has also worked as a Systems Analyst with Tata Consultancy Services in Bombay, India.
Narendra’s expertise is in the areas of supply chain management, service supply chain management, and manufacturing competitiveness. He has published his research in journals such as Harvard Business Review, Interfaces, Operations Research, Naval Research Logistics, IIE Transactions, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Journal of Retailing, and Production and Operations Management. He is a co-editor of the book "Retail Supply Chain Management," and has contributed chapters in a number of other books. He serves on the editorial review board of Production and Operations Management, and is an Associate Editor for Management Science and MSOM.
He teaches courses in supply chain management, operations management, computer based decision models, and service operations in MBA and executive MBA programs. He has conducted numerous management development seminars internationally and consulted with companies in the retail and high-technology industries, including AAFES, Adaptec, The Gap, Hewlett Packard, IBM, KLA-Tencor, ONGC (India), Overstock.com, Pemex (Mexico), Schlumberger and Silicon Image.
Narendra has received a number of teaching awards including the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence (at Santa Clara University) every year during 1996-2007, and the MBA Core Curriculum Teaching Award at The Wharton School. He is a three-time recipient of the Breetwor Fellowship, which is awarded to tenured faculty members who have distinguished themselves as teaching scholars and are making notable service contributions to the School, the University, and the profession. He has also received numerous research grants from the Leavey School of Business and the Retail Management Institute.
He is a Research Faculty Associate of the Retail Workbench Research & Education Center, a member of INFORMS, and trustee of Give2Asia, a non-profit organization established by The Asia Foundation to promote philanthropy to Asia.
He holds an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Institute of Technology, B.H.U., India; M.S. in Management Science from the University of Texas at Dallas; and an M.A. and Ph. D. in Operations and Information Management from The Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania.
