Post-Baccalaureate Student Financial Aid Information

Post-baccalaureate students (students who have already earned their first bachelor’s degree) who are admitted into a degree-approved certificate program may be eligible for Federal Direct Loans if they have not already reached the aggregate maximum federal loan amount. Post-baccalaureate students are not eligible for state or federal grant programs.

Federal Loan Eligibility

Post-baccalaureate students may be eligible for Federal Direct Student Loans based on their dependency status:

  • Dependent students may borrow up to $5,500 in Federal Direct Student Loans during the academic year. In addition, a Parent PLUS Loan may be available if a parent applies and is approved.
  • Independent students may borrow up to $12,500 in Federal Direct Student Loans.

Important Notes

  • Students must be enrolled at least half-time to qualify.
  • Private lenders are also an option.

Completing the FAFSA (2025–2026)

When filling out the 2025–2026 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), use the following responses:

  • College grade level at the start of the 2025–26 school year: Other Undergraduate (junior or beyond)
  • Will you already have your first bachelor’s degree before 2025–26? Yes
